By Daylight, By Lamplight:
A progressive installation by the C-Scape Mapping Project Artist’s
Collaborative 2002

From Friday, March 1 through April 1, 2002 the Silas-Kenyon Gallery at the Schoolhouse Center opens its doors to the Province Lands by hosting an evolving month-long installation by the artists of the 2002 C-Scape Mapping Project. Beginning on March 1 with a reception from 6 – 9 p.m in a relatively empty space, member artists will create a group installation fed directly from a simultaneous residency in the shack, including artifacts, constructions and observations collected in the landscape, and objects created in the gallery itself. Project members will be resident from late February and throughout March in the Province Lands dune shack, which is managed by the Provincetown
Community Compact through an agreement with the Cape Cod National Seashore, U. S. National Park Service.

The public is encouraged to visit the installation throughout the month during gallery hours, by making an appointment, or by stopping by. A schedule of concurrent participatory events, including walks, collaborative art constructions, and demonstrations, both in the gallery and in the Province Lands, will be available at the Schoolhouse Center,
494 Commercial St, Provincetown, (508) 487-4800 X 105 on March 1 and throughout the project.

The C-Scape Mapping Project is a non-profit grassroots collaborative offering short-term winter residencies for visual artists, conceptual artists, writers, and scientists at the historic C-Scape Dune Shack. We share our experiences through community-oriented arts projects, by engaging in environmental education and teaching projects with local schools, and by holding an annual exhibition at the Schoolhouse Center. Our exhibitions provide the community with an opportunity to share in our varied and personal encounters with the openness that is the Province Lands. The goal of the C-Scape Mapping Project is to foster the development of an ecological consciousness through the interchange
between the arts and sciences.

The Schoolhouse Center is located at 494 Commercial Street in Provincetown’s historic East End Gallery District. Gallery hours for this exhibition are Thursday through Sunday from Noon, and always by appointment.
