| In her up-coming show "Little Robbers," Lynn Stanley continues her exploration of the artist's book. A book-maker who was trained at Smith College in the traditional form of letter-press printing, Stanley's current work-- including an alphabet book made from cyanotype prints, and the title piece, a "found" book from the 1850's which Stanley painted and collaged--looks at issues of time, transience and appropriation. For "Blue Light," (one of the books from the cyanotype or sun print series). Stanley employed hand-cut paper stencils to achieve the delicate cobalt blue and white patterns of the accordion formatted book. And in "Learning about Clocks," a book of lino-cut prints of common objects, Stanley takes an ironic look at modern living. Stanley is a writer and visual artist who has been a resident of the Cape since 1990. She received her BA from Smith College and is a recent graduate of the MFA program in poetry from the University of Michigan. A chapbook of her poems, "Gravity Claims Us," published by Folly Cove Books, is available through the Schoolhouse Center. She currently lives in Truro. | |||||||||
