Continuing a successful annual tradition, the Driskel Gallery at the Schoolhouse Center for Art and Design in Provincetown, Massachusetts, presents another group of startling anonymous photographs. Culled from thousands of snapshots, commercial studio products, scientific, crime, news, medical and amateur erotic photographs, these provocative images are “found art” in the truest sense.

Defined by the sensibility and discrimination of a collector or the refined vision of a curator, the elevation of these pieces to artwork status is accomplished through the selection process rather than by the intent of the photographer. Affordable and available, they appeal strongly to the collecting instincts of a broad range of individuals and institutions.

Central to the exhibition this year is a large archive of vintage Jayne Mansfield memorabilia from a Los Angeles collection. Comprised of many anonymous publicity shots of Jayne, movie stills, posters, theatre cards, magazines and books, this collection offers a wealth of nostalgia for Jayne’s admirers.
