The Driskel Gallery at the Schoolhouse Center for Art and Design in Provincetown, MA presents the first-ever exhibition in a commercial gallery by renowned photographer Marie Cosindas.

The color photographs comprising this exhibition are the famous Key West images, many of which were included in Cosindas’ 1966 one-person exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, which established her reputation internationally as one of the world’s great pioneering color photographers.

These photographs include her iconic images of languid young sailors, portraits of a glamorous aging stripper with doves and a
man in full leather regalia straddling an ice cream parlor chair with a heart-shaped back. Also exhibited are portraits of Tennessee Williams taken in Key West a few years later. Williams spent much time in Provincetown where he wrote The Glass Menagerie.

Originally taken with the then experimental Polacolor film from the Polaroid Corporation in Cambridge, Ma, these c-prints are produced under the supervision of Cosindas directly from the originals, which are never sold.

The MOMA exhibition in 1966 was quickly followed by one-person shows at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston , the Art Institute of Chicago and many other institutions. Her work is now widely known and is included in many major permanent collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art , the Museum of Modern Art, the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and the Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery at the University of Nebraska.
