WOVEN PHOTOGRAPHS

THE SCHOOLHOUSE CENTER

July 12 -July 24, 2002
Opening Reception: Friday, July 12, 6 - 9p.m.

The Driskel Gallery at the Schoolhouse Center in Provincetown, MA, is pleased
to present woven photographs by William P. Hamlin. Using the deceptively
simple collage technique of cutting and weaving together two seperate
photographic images, Hamlin explores the limitations of trying to capture a three dimensional world on a two dimensional picture plane. In his vibrant and complex pictures, Hamlin makes it brilliantly clear that how we see the world is not all at once but in countless accumulatted details and glances. His colorful depictions of snow, sand , sea and sky are marvelous meditations of the act of seeing and the art of living.

William P. Hamlin holds a BFA from New York University in photography and
art history, and was the 2000 first prize winner of the annual juried exhibition at the Provincetown Art Association .

For more information or an interview with the artists please call David Carrino at (508) 487.4800.
