Like Amy Arbus, John Arsenault seeks to explore and expand the definition of what is a document. In this exhibition he continues to use his camera as a visual diary, repeatedly photographing friends, family, lovers, vacation spots, and himself. Employing sophisticated lighting techniques and hyper-saturated color, Arsenault’s “snapshots” look
more like images from the world of high fashion and magazine advertising, blurring the distinction between public and private.

John Arsenault is a graduate of the School of Visual Arts on New York
City, where he lives and works. This is also his second exhibition at the
Schoolhouse center.

"APPLE DUMPLIN'"

Apple Dumplin is the nickname John Arsenaults grandmother gave to him. This exhibition title signals the nature of Arsenaults new work, a vibrant autobiographical visual diary of various trips, including those to Costa Rica and Las Vegas. Portraits and abstractions, scenes indoors and out are gathered here to reveal a sensual and fresh high-chroma world.

John Arsenault is a graduate of the School of Visual Arts in New York, where he lives and works.
