THE JURORS:
MARK ADAMS is a cartographer and painter who lives in Truro and works all over the country. He makes books, drawings and paintings with inks and watercolor paints that often originate in his experiences working with people and animals in the natural environment of Cape Cods National Seashore. Adams will exhibit a new body of work in the Silas-Kenyon Gallery from August 6-18. His recent work is generated from the introduction of photo etchings into his studio, and the responses to some exciting new juxtapositions in the work. He considers the new pieces like field notes containing parts of the real world along with components of an interior life inspired by the local landscape. Here we see how our bodies move in concert with a natural order, and are reminded of our connections with the range of seen and unseen inhabitants of the Cape, as well how we are influenced by what lies beyond. "We live in a world that is much bigger than we know", says Adams when asked to describe his motivations for making his art. MARTY EPP is an artist who makes work in painting, printmaking and drawing. Born in Lincoln, Nebraska in 1961, she has lived in Massachusetts since 1981 and now lives and works in Boston and Provincetown. Epp is a graduate of Boston University, Lesley College and The Massachusetts College of Art where she received her BFA in painting in 1994. Since graduating from Mass Art, Epp has pursued her art full time and has shown locally, nationally and internationally. In 1998 she won a New England Foundation for the Arts grant in the works on paper category. Her work is in collections abroad and in the US including the DeCordova Museum and Sculpture Park, and the Boston Public Library. She is represented locally at the Center Galleries and in the Boston area at the Clark Gallery in Lincoln, MA. Epps new work will be on view throughout the summer and in exhibition beginning on September 3. The Schoolhouse Galleries are located at 494 Commercial Street in the heart of Provincetowns East End Gallery District.
